Spoonie Artist Meet-Up #3 – Winter Special!
10th December 2019 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
This event will take place at The Yard Theatre, Hulme.
Welcome to the THIRD official Spoonie Artists Meet-Up, hosted by accessibility & affordability focussed arts practice, Nice Time Arts!
This winter special has two focuses (however, as usual anyone and everyone is welcome to come along and bring or do whatever they like craft-wise);
1) card making for the enthusiastic seasonal card-makers (and the unenthusiastic ones, naturally)
2) will be focused on keeping warm n safe n not-too-sad-if-possible over the winter; we will borrow tips from clever Zine Club’s Winter Special and share our coping techniques, craft ideas, journalling habits and creative tips for getting through the cold and strange month that is December.
We will provide you with a whole host of wonderful resources and materials to experiment with and enjoy, as well as some blankets, cushions, and a quiet corner with a zine library and hot drinks.
This is also an opportunity for you to bring your own craft projects to get on with in a nice, warm, friendly, social environment.
Still Ill OK coordinates the programme, so there will also be some craftivist opportunities, prompts and zine call-outs as a standard offer if that interests you.
As the sessions go on, we can facilitate different arts and craft skill shares, so just let us know if there’s any particular form you’re particularly interested in.
The event Spoonie Artists is open to everyone but is primarily a space for chronically ill, disabled, neurodivergent creatives to get together, socialise, play with and make art. It takes place at least once a month in a wheelchair accessible venue.
We understand accessibility as an evolving, intersectional and never ‘finished’ goal, so please do get in touch if you have any thoughts about this for next time, or feedback on sessions thus far 🙂
The Yard is on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible. There are gender neutral toilets and accessible toilets. Music may be playing at a low volume, but can be turned off on request (you may also request this in advance via email). The room is spacious and there is access to a quiet outside space. There will be light refreshments available. Contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org for any additional information or requests.
The Yard is part of the Work For Change building (which also houses Venture Arts and Kim By The Sea). The entrance is the large blue door on the corner, with large “41” letters. Press the buzzer and someone will let you in and lead you to the room we’ll be in! Our number is 07539 371 070 if you have any trouble finding us.
By Car – The Yard has parking around the building which is free for 2 hours. There is also a disabled parking space a short walk from the entrance.
By Public Transport – Bus number 86 stops a 2-minute walk away (Old Birley Street stop). Bus numbers 53/250/256/263 also stop a 3-minute walk away (Hulme Park stop). The closest tram/rail link is Deansgate Castlefield, which is a 20 minute walk away.
